Arithmancy - divination by numbers - predates numerology as a formal system. Ancient Greek practitioners assigned numerical values to letters, calculated totals, and read patterns the way a modern numerologist reads a Life Path. This widget works the same seam: your name and birth date reduce to core numbers, each of which carries a specific energetic signature that describes not what will happen to you but what you're working with. The 3 and the 8 are genuinely different kinds of lives. Understanding which one you're in is the beginning of something.

How it works

Enter your full birth name and birth date. The calculator derives your Expression Number (from the name), Life Path Number (from the date), and Soul Urge Number (from the vowels in your name). Each number reduces to a single digit - 1 through 9, plus the master numbers 11, 22, and 33. You receive a reading for each number and a brief synthesis of how they interact.

Understanding your result

The three core numbers describe distinct but overlapping aspects of who you are: the Life Path is the terrain you were born into - your natural tendencies and recurring themes. The Expression Number describes the skills and energy you bring to that terrain. The Soul Urge describes what actually drives you beneath the surface, often different from what you project. When the three align, a person tends to feel coherent. When they conflict - a 1 Life Path with a 2 Soul Urge, for instance - the tension itself is useful information about where your energy goes.

Frequently asked questions

Which numerology system does this use?

Pythagorean numerology, the most widely used Western system, where letters are assigned values 1-9 in sequence. The Chaldean system assigns different values and produces different results - we use Pythagorean because it's the most documented and consistent.

What name should I use if I've changed my name?

Your full birth name as it appears on your birth certificate is what traditional numerology uses for the Expression and Soul Urge calculations. A chosen name or married name carries its own energy and can be calculated separately - but the birth name reveals the original blueprint.

What are master numbers?

11, 22, and 33 are not reduced further. They carry amplified versions of 2, 4, and 6 respectively - along with a specific intensity that, in traditional numerology, indicates both high potential and higher demand. People with master numbers in their chart often describe their lives as feeling unusually pressured in specific directions.

Is this a personality test?

It's closer to a symbolic framework than a personality inventory. It's offered for self-reflection and entertainment, not as psychological assessment.
