Spirit animal - or power animal, in the shamanic tradition where the term originates - is not a personality type assigned by a quiz. It's a relationship. In Siberian, Plains Native, and other shamanic traditions, a power animal is an ally that accompanies a person, offers protection, and lends its qualities to human work. This oracle doesn't assign you an animal based on your birth year or your favorite color. It works with your actual affinities, recurring encounters, and dream imagery to identify which animal energy is most present in your life right now.
How it works
A series of image and question-based prompts draws out your instinctive responses: animals you've been repeatedly drawn to, animals that have appeared in unusual circumstances, animals that feel both familiar and slightly outside your ordinary range of attention. The oracle cross-references your responses with the power animal traditions from multiple shamanic cultures and returns the animal most strongly indicated, along with its qualities and its tradition of origin.
Understanding your result
The result identifies your current spirit animal, which tradition it comes from most strongly, what domain it governs (healing, vision, protection, communication, transition, etc.), and what working with that energy typically looks like in practice. If the same animal appears across multiple traditions with different meanings, the oracle notes both - a snake in Mesoamerican tradition and a snake in Celtic tradition are related but distinct allies. The reading gives you the full cross-cultural picture.

Is this culturally appropriate?
We draw from documented traditions, name origins clearly, and distinguish between closed ceremonial practices (which we don't replicate) and the archetypal and symbolic work available for general engagement. We note where specific traditions consider the practice closed.
Can my spirit animal change?
In most traditions, yes - different animals come forward at different life phases. A spirit animal isn't a permanent assignment like a zodiac sign. What's present now may shift after a major transition.
What if I don't feel connected to animals?
The oracle reads your current affinities, which may be subtle. Many people who say they're not animal people find an accurate result anyway - the connection doesn't require conscious affinity, just honest answers.
Is this the same as a totem animal?
Related but different. A totem is often clan or family-based rather than personal. A power animal is individual - your ally specifically. The oracle works with the personal power animal framework.
