Natal Chart Deep Reading - Planets, Houses, Aspects and Transits Explained
A natal chart is a map of the sky drawn for the precise moment you were born - the date, the time, and the place. It shows where each planet was positioned relative to the horizon of your birthplace, and which section of the sky (which house) that planet occupied. The result is not a personality test. It is a symbolic portrait of the energetic conditions that were present when you arrived.
The chart does not predict events. It describes tendencies - how you tend to process emotion, where you tend to find courage, where resistance tends to accumulate, what kind of work tends to feel meaningful. The gap between the map and the life is the space where choice lives.
The Planets
Each planet in the chart represents a different function of the psyche.
The personal planets - Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars - move quickly and define the most immediately recognizable aspects of character. The Sun is identity and will. The Moon is emotional instinct and need for safety. Mercury is how you think and communicate. Venus is what you love and what you value. Mars is where you act and how you use energy.
The social planets - Jupiter and Saturn - move more slowly and describe the interface between personal life and the larger world. Jupiter shows where life wants to expand and where luck tends to accumulate. Saturn shows where the work is serious, where mastery is possible, and where life asks for patience.
The outer planets - Uranus, Neptune, Pluto - move so slowly that they describe generational themes as much as individual ones. Their house position in your chart shows where those collective forces touch your personal life most directly. Uranus brings disruption and originality. Neptune brings dissolution and the search for the sacred. Pluto brings transformation that cannot be avoided.
The Twelve Houses
The wheel of the chart is divided into twelve houses. Each house governs a specific domain of lived experience.
The 1st house is the body, the first impression, the way you begin. The 2nd house is resources and self-worth. The 3rd is communication, short journeys, siblings. The 4th is home and roots - the emotional ground. The 5th is creativity, play, children and joy. The 6th is daily work and health.
The 7th house is partnership and commitment. The 8th is intimacy, shared resources, and transformation. The 9th is travel, higher education, and the search for meaning. The 10th is vocation and public reputation. The 11th is community, friendship, and shared causes. The 12th is solitude, the unconscious, and spiritual practice.
When a planet sits in a house, the energy of that planet plays out most visibly in that domain of life. Sun in the 10th house builds identity through career and public visibility. Moon in the 4th house processes emotion most deeply at home and through family.
Aspects
Aspects are the angular relationships between planets - the conversation they are having with each other. A conjunction (0 deg) fuses two planetary energies so that they act together, inseparably. A sextile (60 deg) or trine (120 deg) describes energies that support and flow into each other. A square (90 deg) describes tension - two drives that want different things - which is uncomfortable but productive when worked with consciously. An opposition (180 deg) describes a polarity, a pull in two directions that asks for integration rather than choosing sides.
Reading a chart means reading all of these conversations at once. A person with Sun trine Jupiter may find expansion and confidence come naturally; add a Saturn square to the Sun and suddenly there is also a voice that doubts, tests, and demands proof before it relaxes.
Transits
Your natal chart does not change. But the planets in the sky keep moving, and when a moving planet forms an angle to a planet in your birth chart, it activates that natal planet. This is a transit.
Transits describe the current weather. A Jupiter transit to your natal Venus opens windows for love, beauty and financial ease. A Saturn transit to your natal Sun brings pressure, responsibility and a test of identity that takes months to move through. The natal chart is the landscape; transits show which part of that landscape is currently illuminated.
Karmic Points and the Nodes
The Lunar Nodes - North Node and South Node - mark the points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. They are always directly opposite each other in the chart.
The South Node describes what you arrived with - the energies that come easily, that feel familiar, that can become a comfortable retreat. The North Node describes the direction of growth - what is less familiar, what requires effort, what the life is quietly pushing you toward.
Chiron, often called the Wounded Healer, marks the place in the chart where a wound sits alongside a gift. The wound is real. So is the gift. The two cannot be separated; the capacity to help others in precisely that domain grows directly from the experience of having been broken there.
How to Use This Widget
Enter your birth date, time, and location. The closer the birth time, the more accurate the house positions - birth times within fifteen minutes produce the most reliable chart.
The wheel shows planet positions in signs and houses. Tap any planet to read its interpretation - what that planet means in the sign and house where it sits. The aspect grid shows the conversations between planets; tap an aspect line to read what those two energies are doing together.
The transit section shows current planetary positions and which natal points they are activating right now. Use this to understand why a particular area of life feels charged or quiet in the present moment.
The deeper reading sections cover karmic points, the Nodes, Chiron, and the major aspect patterns in your chart.
